| I expect there are others just as good as the Amplidan and
the HK-802 The Morse Equipment key made at Tring is also a superb
key and probably fits well between the Amplidan and the HK-804 performance wise, but it is such a monster and its internal construction almost impossible to replicate in any way because of all the Bakerlite mouldings. The English P.S 213a I'm told also has a superb action, so much so that I built a version of it myself key 057 and that also has a remarkable action. but originals are very rare, all these keys above have advantages and disadvantages, the Amplidan is a complex key internally very finely machined and balanced, and the action is very difficult to describe and even more difficult to replicate. BUT at least four of my Handmade keys have got VERY close, one more than the others, and quite simply done, Key 070, it started life as a bits and pieces key, made from leftovers from other projects I used a compilation of various measurements from a variety of excellent keys and now after a few small modifications I think its one of the best keys I've ever used, and I'm pretty certain I now know why its action is exceptional, to prove it to myself I'm building some more keys of a similar design, something I don't normally do, although they will look slightly different the part which I'm sure holds the secret of a very fine simple action is the same, key 080 was one of the first and others have followed in my opinion these keys are quite exceptional and easily match the performance of most of my test keys If you have come across this page by accident and you are interested in my Handmade keys then the list starts here at my first keys 001 to 040 |
