| This key is a another use of lightweight box section brass, but this time it will hopefully be along the lines of the famous American J type speed keys with a sort of pin pivot, the American keys were a great design, very lightweight and pleasant to use, the pivot though fairly simple is I find difficult to make as an Amateur, everything has to line up perfectly or it looks bad, this is my first pin pivot key so I'm taking my time with it, I have made the pointed end of the pivot on the box section by turning a point onto 2ba brass studding and bolting it on, the socket end I've made using a centre drill into similar studding threaded into two machined arms bolted to a base plate, they match very well and I'm surprised at the lack of friction when its set up, the contact tower is also of box section, and I'm using my tried and tested under arm tensioner, It's turned out a very nice key but very tricky to line up, the pressure on the pivots has to be just right, to tight and it binds, to loose and the arm wobbles, but a very usable lightweight key. |
