This is key No 138 Back to my first love, "A very unusual Morse key" I really enjoy making this type of key, it is quite a challenge as it has to be an original unique design yet have a respectable action, I like the challenge of scratch building a prototype, this key is a sort of frame that hangs from a central pivot, it has a magnetic repulsion tensioner and isolated contacts which will link to a terminal with a flexible lead, the knob is mounted on two bars to match the rest of the key and also adds a slight flexibility into the action, It works very well a nice action for a medium sized key, it was a little tail heavy which some ops like, but I have fitted a counter weight under the bottom disk magnet, as this gives a more neutral balance to the action but is easily removed as it is a threaded fixture, I decided to Nickel plate as there are so many little crevasses that it would be almost impossible to keep a polished brass finish, one of the big advantages of a Nickel finish it it is very easy to keep nice and shiny, it's been a real fun project I have enjoyed it immensely :() |
